A Real Life Representation of Sibling Relationships

Siblings. The people we have shown the most love and the most hate, probably at the same time. Growing up with five younger sisters, I was able to experience sisterly love in the best of ways. One minute we would be dancing around the house, the next we would be wrestling on the floor.  To say that we always got along would be the biggest lie there ever was, but this wasn’t really a bad thing. Here are a few of my favorite examples of our “Sibling Rivalry”.

Take a look at this picture for example:

thumb_what-its-like-to-have-a-sister-i-am-dressed-9297864I am pretty sure that I made that face countless times growing up as my mom dressed my sisters and I in matching outfits. As the older and superior child, I never felt like it was fair for mom to make me wear the same clothes as the rest of the girls. This meme is a perfect representation of what it is like to grow up in a house full of girls. And it doesn’t only apply to clothing, if my hair was ever braided, the last thing I wanted was for Whitney or Bailey to have their hair braided. I would cry and throw a fit if we looked similar at all! Now however, when 8 year old Allie J wants to match with me, I do it in a heartbeat!

Who’s turn is it?

Screen Shot 2018-11-04 at 7.12.39 PMSome may wonder what is happening in this photo, but if you have siblings… You know! We love watching TV at our house and the system of figuring out who’s turn it is is complex and intense. There have been many arguments about who’s turn it actually was to choose the show and if someone disagrees? Well, The remote sensor on the TV gets blocked by the sibling opponent and the yelling begins! Who can relate?

“I call Shotgun!”

I could not find a picture to do justice of this sibling argument, but if you know, you know. As soon as I met the weight and height limit, I took my throne in the front seat.   Those were the good days. There was never an argument, life was good. Until it happened. Whitney became eligible for the throne. Looking back, I think that her front seat eligibility was the turning point for our relationship. We would hear the car keys jingle and make a run for the car while screaming, “I call Shotgun!”. The first person to the car would open the door, get in, and lock the door. The other would pull on the door handle while yelling for mom and explaining to her that they  actually called the seat and deserved the throne. After about 2 minutes, both competitors were sent to the back seat to think about what they had done. Yet this happened nearly every time.

So what are your favorite sibling rivalry experiences? Can you relate to any of these examples? Comment below and let me know what your siblings argued over!

Disclaimer: The Keele girls really do love each other, I promise!
