7 Questions I’ve Asked my Mom

My mom and I have always been close. I go to her for everything from cooking tips to general grown-up life questions. She always knows what to say and how to help me. It makes me wonder how I am ever going learn all of the mom answers for my future children. Here are seven of the most interesting things I have called my mom about.

What kind of gas do I put in the truck?

It might sound silly, but that I really did call my mom and ask her this. Growing up, my dad always had a diesel truck. I don’t know why, but somehow, I thought that all trucks needed diesel, so when I was driving my grandparents’ smaller truck and it needs gas, I was unsure what to do. After googling and looking in the manual of the truck, I decided that calling mom might be my best bet. I called her up and after only a little bit of teasing, I found out that I should NOT put diesel in the truck, and that regular gas would be just fine. I have never lived this one down.

How do I boil an egg?

Again, this is probably common knowledge that I should have known, but I didn’t. I was craving boiled eggs one night at college. Again, I went to the internet first, to see exactly what the best method would be. The problem was, there were so many methods to choose from that I quickly got overwhelmed. I called my mom and she walked me through the process. I then enjoyed a perfectly boiled egg that night. Thanks mom!

How do I pay taxes?

You would think that I learned how to do this in high school, but you’re wrong. It was after my first job at college. I got this thing called a “W-2” and that was when the questions started. I didn’t know what the numbers meant, let alone how to somehow turn them into my taxes. I called my mom and she told me exactly what I should do. I have been paying my taxes on my own ever since.

What kind of medicine should I take?

This is a reoccurring question between my mom and I.  It doesn’t matter if I have a cold or a headache, I can never remember what medicine fixes things the best. Mothers have this basket of medicinal knowledge that can literally heal you from any sickness.

How do I get ready to see the gynecologist?

THIS IS A REAL THING. I am sure that almost every girl has wondered what they should do before they see the gynecologist for the first time. I remember calling my mom crying before my first visit. I am an indecisive person and I knew that birth control would be a question. I probably called my mom fifty times before I finally made a decision and went in.
