I’ve been married to Slate for about 8 moths now. People keep asking about how married life is… Well, it’s GREAT! Our big day was long, beautiful, and eventful. Slate and I got married on March 16, 2018 in Payson, Utah. Here is a VIP view into my wedding day.
The day started with an early morning glamorization. My mom did my hair while my cousin Emily applied my makeup. It was all about me. When I was finally ready, Slate picked me up and we started our journey to the Payson LDS Temple to be married. It was a 15-minute drive, so we figured that leaving 25 minutes early would be just fine. Unfortunately, after about 10 minutes into our commute, we hit traffic. It was not like normal traffic, we were in a dead stop. For an hour. We literally didn’t move for AN HOUR! I was a bit of a mess. My false eyelashes came off from the tears and my engagement dress was stained with makeup filled tears. Luckily, I was marrying the best person ever, because Slate somehow helped me be ok during the wait. For those worried about the eyelashes, my talented father has become a professional at applying false eyelashes over the years, so he quickly repaired the lash dilemma.
I WAS AN HOUR LATE TO MY OWN WEDDING!
When we arrived at the temple, we were greeted with kindness and calming voices. Apparently, everyone else getting married that day was also an hour late, so it worked out!
Our ceremony was beautiful and we were married for time and all eternity. We walked out the temple and were greeted by friends and family cheering for our new relationship status. After we snapped a few pictures, I was STARVING! We went to Taco Bell and got burritos and slushies for 50% off since we has just barely gotten married.
We ate our first burritos as a married person and made our way down to our hometown for the wedding luncheon. Slate’s family prepared pulled pork sandwiches, salad, dessert and drinks for the whole family and wedding party to enjoy. It was lovely.
Then came the reception. In our small town, there aren’t a ton of venues for wedding receptions. I searched for months to find my perfect venue, and I decided that it would be fun to do a unique reception in the old abandoned movie theater in Monroe, Utah. We served popcorn, candy, grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. It was my favorite thing. I had chosen red for my wedding colors because of my red ruby slippers that my dad made me when I starred as Dorothy in the school production of The Wizard of Oz. The theater was white with red accents, so it worked out perfectly. We had dancing, cake, music and all other traditional wedding activities. Our night ended with a sparkler sendoff as we left for our hotel to spend our first night as a married couple. We have been living happily ever after ever since.
